Default The Yoshitaka Hirota Experience

Can anyone offer some feedback on this interview I did with Yoshitaka Hirota for Square Haven?

A couple days ago I had the chance to meet with the composer and two collaborators from a band called Darumaya. The vocalist is Kyoko Kishikawa of Armodyne and Minstrel Song and the percussionist is Hiroaki Machida of near death experience.

I think this is a powerful combo, but I want to know your thoughts. What kind of feelings does their music leave you with and what questions would you ask these musicians? Thanks for your opinions if you have the inclination. Great start, VGMdb!

Ah, the man behind Shadow Hearts's music. Currently I only know the pieces that were part of Gamingforce Best VGM Song Contest in the last years but I enjoyed it.

What questions would I ask... Hm, don't know. Sometimes I have moments with a great portion of admiration for these people but then I would only say "Thank you very much!" instead of asking a bunch of questions excepting two: "What was your hardest task in composing so far?" and "Do you have a track on what you are very proud?".

I think you did a pretty good job with that interview. I found it quite interesting too since although I did think Hirota's stuff reminded me a bit of Chrono Trigger, I never thought that he used to be a part of Square.

I've been quite a fan of all his Shadow Hearts compositions, however, and very much so of ICARO, ICARO AGAIN~ and the Acoustic Arrangement (nice targeted question about that particular track by the way).

I suppose it's not that surprising now why I'd taken to his compositions as much as I enjoyed Yasunori Mitsuda's in the past.

I liked the interview - its always great to get interviews like that because I personally never seem to find them about of the net so thumbs up from me!

As a side note, loving the music of Darumaya - I'm going to keep my eye on that

My interview with Darumaya was up on the web, but no longer. I'm looking for a new host for the article.
