The Japanese credits are indeed different from the USA ones.

Then again he's listed first in the Japanese version, and the music does indeed have that Contra / Gradius II FC flavor... The american credits could be a misplacement due to lazyness (three lines for composers, who did the port takes a slot, no more lines available, Maezawa gets in the thanks). It's also unlikely that a person so talented to create the custom chip didn't want to toy with it at its first commercial debut.
The way I see it, the fact that he states that he didn't touch the US version only proves that Sasaki was in charge of the conversion, not that Maezawa isn't a composer for the game.

悪魔城ドラキュラX 血の輪廻(PCE) / Devil's Castle Dracula X: Rondo of Blood / Castlevania: Rondo of Blood

Credits: あきろぴと, 地獄車中村, Sanoppi, メタルユウキ

Composers: Akiropito, Jigokuguruma Nakamura, Sanoppi, Metal Yuuki

Notes: Real names of the four aliases unverifiable.
Did a lot of research on Konami games over the summer (most data still unpublished). I found:

Akiropito = Akira Yamaoka
Jigokuguruma Nakamura = Keizo Nakamura
Metal Yuhki = Mikio Saito
Not 100% sure about Sanoppi, but suspect Kazuhiro Senoo given closeness to department and composers involved.

Credits look good otherwise!

Wow, this is a surprise to me, since even GMCL doesn't provide this information.

If it's ever the case, that explains why Yamane didn't mention Akiropito but Yamaoka in the special thank part of her liner note in SotN (both names were credited in the booklet). On a related note, VGMdb's SotN entry hadn't added Yamaoka to the arranger field, and I fixed it.

Interesting point about the liner note. Also, I will add Tony Haynes and Jeff Lorber in SotN entry. Despite both aren't credited in the booklet (Rika Muranaka also isn't credited), I am the Wind single provides the detailed information.

Edit: actually, all of them are credited in SoTN booklet.

It's a good line of reasoning, but eventually it's speculation - I think until further evidence comes out that we should play it safe and be inclusive, that is, list as composers the guys credited under "sound", three for the original and a fourth one for the western port.

Cool. It seems that we produced quite a good and informative thread. By the way, a S(h)igeru Fukutake is mentioned in the "special thanks" section of Symphony of the Night credits. (random trivia from Castlevania addicted)

I keep thinking at that weird renaming which happened in Castlevania Chronicles... Igarashi usually is dead serious over these kind of things. After all the Chronicles port went the extra mile to include all three different sound card output for the game.

try to follow my thought on this:

Quote:
For reasons unknown, the credits for the X68000 original mode port included with Castlevania Chronicles changed the composer credits to some wrong names.
We can't be sure they're wrong.

Quote:
Anyway, the liner notes of the MIDI Power ver.3.0 X68000 Collection use the original names (しんちゃん, 地獄車中村, でび小林)
That's a given, since MIDI Power 3.0 is almost contemporary to the game, way before the 2001 port/remake.

===

Credits (X68000, 1993): Shin Chan, Jigokuguruma Nakamura, Devi Kobayashi [see them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr7-bpadeGg]

Nendaiki "original mode" credits (PS, 2001): Shin Chan, Jigokuokusama Iizuka, Devr Shibata [see them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Paa_HmCHWEE]

Nendaiki "arrange" credits (PS, 2001): Credits & Composers: Sota Fujimori, Hiroshi Iizuka [see them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqZt-6o1iFY]

Weird thing to notice #1: one name is unchanged: Shin Chan (the most mysterious of them all)

Jigoku(=hell)guruma Nakamura becomes Jigoku okusama Iizuka.

Weird thing to notice #2: There's an Hiroshi Iizuka credited for Nendaiki arrange. Coincidence?

Devi Kobayashi becomes Devr Shibata

Weird thing to notice #3: one cannot but to think to Naoto Shibata who in the years 94-95 was doing, among other stuff, the Dracula Battle albums.

Does all this make any sense at all? Hell if I know. If the package design is any indicator, the "original mode" credits in Nendaiki are pretty screwed: package design in 1993 is Satoh Inukun, in 2001 (original mode) is Ayami Kojima...

I think Prime Blue is right in following the first release credits, but I cannot explain myself why changing them in 2001, and they certainly look suspiciously "interesting" to dismiss them as a plain error... Why change the names? Why not change Shin Chan, the only nickname who's in all three credits? I think I'll lose sleep 'cause of this stuff, seriously.

EDIT:

Well, if nothing else going through all this I noticed something which is nothing short of outstanding (my jaw dropped). Nendaiki arrange credits, under "Product Management" you find Dave Cox.
Arguably the same Dave Cox which is in charge of Castlevania Lords of Shadow. (!)

So does that mean Akira Yamaoka composed "Divine Bloodlines"? That's one of my favorite tracks in the entire series.

I demand confirmation.

Just wondering... Why Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is listed on Motoaki Furukawa's works on Ge-On-Dan profile and GMCL?

Perhaps Furukawa was involved the the Neo Cinema Winbee arrangements? Or in the famous Kukeiha Club arrangement of Beginning, titled "遥かなる凱旋" (Distant Triumphant Return)?

I think it might be another mistake of GMCL. As far as I know, the site doesn't list the album arrangements, such as Neo Cinema Winbee. The game was quoted by the interviewer here, but seems the question referred only to the Sound Creative Chip.

it isn't out yet. I listed it in my collection because I already paid out the >$200 to preorder it. at that price, I deserve to go ahead and list it, heh.

The new arrangements for the box set sound like they will be experimental:

Hip-hop, jazz, heavy metal with vocals...!

Really this entire reply probably goes without saying, but I figured I'd point it out anyway to anyone that doesn't already know.

For those debating that two different names are the same name, obviously we should confirm and find proof that they are, but see DDR for evidence that Konami is not afraid to assign 53897 names to one individual.. Naoki Maeda.

I'd say that has little to do with Konami and more to do specifically with Naoki and other in-house bemani composers, they love their aliases

Does anyone know if the fan named(?) track "The Waterfalls" from Castlevania IV is going to be on any of the discs? Believe it or not, but I actually love this track as much as I love any other track from the Castlevania games (it's pretty short and isn't very melodic, as some people would probably think - to me it still sounds good, though).
