It seems this release is missing quite a few tracks... They were 18 arrangements based on the live concerts of idols songs that were featured in-game during the Grand Festival, and this release only features the 3 that were brand new, and haven’t been featured on concerts before. That’s really a shame since they’re clean studio quality versions of the concert one, and sometimes have slight variations...

Also missing is the new arrangement of Smeared Canvas that was featured during Grand Festival matches (which has a portion of it completely new and inspired by the live concert version)... That’s also a shame since I really like this specific version!
(Also missing is the slightly sped up version of Shark Bytes played during Grand Festival matches)

And I wonder how they will handle Rainbow Color Inkantation and its 4 variations (the last minute of this track has 4 completely different versions). I really hope they’re all featured in the track in some way.

I pre-ordered it off of PlayAsia the day it was announced. A nice treat for another brutal semester.

Only the songs that were never played live before had studio recordings (Color Pulse (2024), Daybreaker Anthem, Liquid Sunshine, Tomorow's Nostalgia Today, We're So Back). The others were cleaned up and re-mixed live recordings from Shiokalive, Haicalive, Tentalive, Bankalive, and Bankalive Gou, the latter of which will be included on this album.

While they sound really clean and it's a bit of a shame to not see them release all the clean mixes, only the new studio recordings, but it's not like those exact performances aren't available on other albums.

...apparently the booklet only lists which composers worked on what in-universe artists, some of which have multiple composers. no track by track breakdown

there could be some errors in here, it's really hard to tell

Kairi Hamada coming out swinging. The newbies are showing off and I'm totally here for it. Masato Ohashi also seems to have the superpower of being everywhere all at once... Hopefully the individual credits get out somehow, this is really strange to abandon tradition mid-way through the release of a game's soundtrack CDs.

literally the only Splatoon soundtrack release to not include a per-track breakdown, really disappointing.

part of me is hoping there is a breakdown just hiding elsewhere in the booklet, but I doubt that's the case

Does that mean all the tracks which haven't any in-game artists (side order cutscenes, jingles, the Crab-N-Go tracks, etc) have no credits at all?
And no credits for Unconscience, the Marina solo song??

What a shame to not have detailed credits for Off the Hook, Mnemonic Clouds and Dedf1sh...
At least we got credits for some songs, but man this is really a huge step back.

With what we got, I'm really surprised about the huge role Hamada had, with some really good songs. Hayazaki's role also seems a little bit more important than I expected.
And it also seems the Side Order sound credits were not only for the Expansion pass but also for the free updates (Hamada, Hayazaki and Ohashi all have contributed to the base game free updates).

Oh, at least we got 1 more song credit not featured here: Suffer No Fools seems to be a collaboration between Toru Minegishi and Toshiyuki Sudo (which is honetsly really cool since they're respectively Off The Hook and Deep Cut's composers)

Though, I feel like Marina, Fire & Ice, the tracks with features can be implied based on the composers for the "root" artists, like Off the Hook for Marina?

Oh that's neat, makes me wonder how many times they've "accidentally" shown sheet credits before. Worth noting that they don't usually make distinction between direct collab and x arranging y's track, in Splatoon, but also Nintendo at large. Since this is an original track, though, it's probably just direct collab.

To be fair, Unconscience is the only song where I could almost bet my life that it's Minegishi. And the more I listen to them, the more I feel Spectrum Obligato / Ebb & Flow (Out of Order), Short Order and We're So Back were also composed by Minegishi. Either that or Hamada really imitated his style quite well (but I feel it's more likely to be the former).
And I feel Color Pulse (2024) was most likely arranged by Hamada.

It's also really bad we don't have credits for #47 onward (I really love this one) and all the Mnemonic Clouds music...
I feel rout1nes, routine2 and routin3s were composed by Hayazaki, Σntrance: Dynamis and Σntrance: Archon were most likely made by Sudo, and I feel the Mnemonic Clouds bosses themes are either Sudo or Takahashi, but I have no clue for all the other songs...

Now we have to hope for a new CD release maybe for future concerts which could clear up some of those composers credits...

In this video from a few weeks ago you can just barely make out 峰岸 透, Toru Minegishi's name on the sheet music for We're So Back.

Oh yeah, that's a nice finding! It's frustrating, I feel we could ALMOST distinguish #47 onward 's composer in the same video since it shows its music sheets multiple times...

EDIT: the composer for Unconscience is hard to see in this video but it seems to be 3 kanjis long (2 kanjis, a blank, then 1 kanji), so i'ts most likely also Minegishi.

Yeah it's clear enough to where you can see 4 kanjis, with a space in the middle, but good luck figuring out who's name is actually written there.

Default DO NOT PURCHASE FROM CDJAPAN

According to some Reddit post, CDJapan is refusing to export this soundtrack, claiming the manufacturer won't sell it overseas. I just got a notification from PlayAsia (where I pre-ordered the album in September) saying that it's scheduled to ship on the 16th.

Yeah, I originally pre-ordered on CDJapan. They canceled the order and delisted the product page. Ended up pre-ordering it on Amazon Japan instead. Will hopefully have it by the end of the month. Would have gotten it around right now if I could get it on CDJapan.

I've never had an problem with PlayAsia. The only issues are that they are a bit late, but it makes sense. Assuming you live in the US, Japan to LAX is a 12-hour flight. Then CBP could tack on minutes or hours. And then it takes time to get to your home in the US. If you're in a different country, like the UK, I don't know their import rules.

I've ordered stuff from Amazon JP before, took about a week to get here - nothing unusual for something coming from Japan. My Ordertune order, which shipped today, says it'll arrive between December 30th and January 4th. It probably differs per seller, still not too bad. CDJapan is always very quick with shipping - even shipping ahead of release so you can get your order on its actual release - so I'm kinda spoiled because of that lol

A couple friends and I noticed some strong similarities between the 3 Mnemonic Clouds boss themes and Yumi Takahashi's Gravity Man Remix from Smash Ultimate. Additionally, she's known to have worked on Nintendo LABO which has quite a few tracks in the Robot Kit that also follow closely in terms of the breakcore/DNB stuff. Sure, Sudo's known to have worked on that series as well, I suppose - but certainly not alone.

I'm eagerly awaiting the credits. I know a few of them, like the idols, but the blurry ones on X don't show much.

I was able to transcribe all of the idol info and collect what we know so far. I used both versions of the idol/group names (Japanese and English) but for track names, to keep it simple, I used the English names when necessary.

These can also be mostly verified from the Tower Records listing which includes the artist names & matching composer info. There are a couple of places where it's wrong, though - for example, listing Minegishi and Hamada for "Suffer no Fools" because it's just treating it as Off the Hook, and it also combines artists that are listed as "feat.", even though it's implied this only refers to the vocalists and doesn't have anything to do with the composers. I guess this is what happens when they cut corners when crediting, only leads to confusion.

This wouldn't be complete if I didn't list of all of the tracks we have 0 information about:

Spoiler:

Just realized the Grand Fest trailer music isn't included... Oh well, at least the video doesn't have much sfx. The composer/arranger is most likely Toshiyuki Sudo.

They also didn't include the music that plays near the plaza towers before a splatfest. I would have liked to hear those without the filters.

I'm fairly confident it's Kairi Hamada simply because she did both Dedf1sh and Off the Hook music on this album. There's no hard confirmation, it could still be Yumi Takahashi, but considering it's a Def1sh feat. Off the Hook track it's at least possible that an Off the Hook composer also worked on the track, like how both Minegishi (Off the Hook) and Sudo (Deep Cut) worked on Suffer No Fools. Following that logic, if #47 onward was done by Takahashi, there'd still be room for a potential collab with Hamada or Minegishi. Of course, in that hypothetical scenaria, it could have just as well been Hamada collabing with Minegishi instead.

All very hypothetical, but it just gives me a feeling Hamada must have been the composer of #47 onward.

Lack of a breakdown really getting me to come up with conspiracies

The current notes says
Quote:
Dedf1sh: 1.02, 1.07, 2.06
, where 2.06 is 一件落着/Case Closed. But when you played it's actually a track sampled "Color Pulse" by Off the Hook.
Can anyone identify if it's a typo by listing 2.06 for Dedf1sh

My typo, not sure how that happened as that track has no credited artist (I reorganized how I was doing the notes halfway through so maybe something weird happened when I was moving text around). Fixed.

3-32 バンカラ三中校歌(とある卒業式の記録) (Note: this doesn't seem to officially count as a Deep Cut track, but it may be considered to be Sudo's if it is)
3-33 すじこジャンクション

1-01 and 1-03 are different arrangements (Muck Warfare and Color Pulse) from Off the Hook's song from Splatoon 2, which I believe are both composed by 峰岸透 (Toru Minegishi).

What frustrated me is 1-38. I totally have no idea if it's a re-arrangement of existing track or new composed work. Nintendo does not list its composer.

I feel like #47 onward is almost certainly Kairi Hamada. We know it has to be her or Takahashi, and on top of feeling more like her stylistically, the name on the sheet music in the videos looks more like hers even if it can't quite be made out. At numerous points it's clear the first kanji in the family name is darker than the second which would be expected of 濵田 but not of 高橋.

Yeah I'm betting #47 onward is Hamada's work too. I think it's likely Yumi Takahashi did 0.1 style and 12.2 awakened. Also for Spectrum Obligato ~ Ebb & Flow (Out of Order) maybe it was both Minegishi and Hamada? It is technically two different artists in game so its not an impossible theory to rule out but Unconscience has def gotta be Minegishi, it feels so similar to his music style for splatoon

Also another note but I'm really glad to see more people who are receptive of the newer and younger composers involved in Nintendo's newer games now. I think my favorite new one is Masato Ohashi, really liked a lot of his work in Tears of the Kingdom alongside Tsukasa Usui. Would love to know more about Kairi Hamada since the only credit I've seen her under is the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass. I'm disappointed with how Ordertune's credits were handled since its done by band/group and not each track individually listed. Free Association does the majority of the music and every song sounds so different from each other that it feels almost impossible to know who could've done what. They individually did each track for totk which was 344 songs and over 11 hours long. I swear Nintendo is getting worse at crediting their composers and it feels disrespectful and wrong even if the music is technically owned by them.
