Huh. It's a great series with lots of other styles to explore. Wonder if they're just not selling well?

Maybe in ending the SQs they'll *finally* start up the EX's. I want arrangements of Enix products! And not just DQ (in fact, mostly *not* DQ)! I want stuff the EX published for smaller studios: the Quintet games (Terranigma etc), EVO, 7th Saga, Mystic Ark, Paladin's Quest & Lennus 2, even Cross Gate! Those would be fun to hear.

I hope not. In my opinion the entire SQ series is mediocre at best, with maybe a few highlights.

If they indeed should plan to cover e.g. Quintet games I'd rather see them doing a release which focuses on a single game (or game series) and which has a clear direction (and not just some random remixes thrown together).

The Soulblazer series would make a good start for this. As Ramza already alluded, you can do amazing things with the Terranigma material. Hah, now I'm getting goosebumps again

My guess is they'll never tackle the Enix material. They seem content ignoring any of it ever existed. We don't even see endless remakes on mobile for any of those games, so I doubt we'll get any music.

I think they're content ignoring them because they were never popular to begin with. It doesn't matter how good the source material is (story, gameplay, music), it's not going to be worth redoing it if barely anyone recognizes or cares about them. But I agree -- we'll never see those titles. They would be complete money sinks for SQEX.

I think they only touch stuff SQ has developed, maybe due to rights or simply respect (do note Enix never developed anything, they were just a publisher).

Niche games like Dewprism or Rudra's Treasure have been arranged in those SQ albums, while hits like Dragon Quest or Star Ocean have not.

bah those albums have SQ in their title, in all logic you can only expect square games
I don't see why non-square games will be in SQ releases

or they could create a new "music franchise" (maybe with EX for games distro by enix, but I doubt)

CD Japan's description says it's mostly a compilation with only 4 new tracks. I just hope since it's the last there won't be any store bonus discs from Tower Records or Village Vanguard, etc.

I think that highly depends on who you ask. The game was never released in the US, but I haven't met anyone here in Germany who considers itself a gamer and hasn't at least heard about Terranigma. Even more, the people who grew up with a Nintendo console are very likely to have played the game, either on their own SNES or on a friend's console.

Doesn't matter who or where you ask, they are not titles that are going to make SQEX money and that's all that SQEX really cares about (rightfully so), especially in a secondary market like soundtracks. I played Soul Blazer. I'm sure a lot of people in this community have as well, as well as heard it. Doesn't mean it's popular in the greater gaming community, which is a billion times bigger than this.

Other than the first SQ Chips and Beer SQ, I never felt much towards this series. Battle SQ was especially disappointing.

You know more than I do. I don't own any of these, and what little I downloaded was mostly atrocious.

I hit 50/50 with these albums. Chill SQ was the first one that really made me sit up and take notice. I like both Chips albums. I like Beer ... and surprisingly I LOVE Battle.

But I *think* I understand why people were disappointed with these albums. ... I think. I'm not totally sure.

In any case. I hope this "Last" one has some cool stuff.

So it's mostly a compilation album, it will only have 4 new tracks (the first and the last on each disc) that will be announced later.

Every album has a few standout tracks. I think Chill, Cafe, Beer, Chips, Chips 2, and the recorder one with a name I can't remember stand most.

Ultimately no. The LastSQ Medley is just a somewhat ok crossfade of the 4 tracks from the main release and while the other track on each CD is unique, it's a bit disppointing. Although Last SQ Prelude has a section there where it takes what sounds very much like the Evangelion fight theme before going into the Prelude. =p

Added scans. Slipcase back turned out to be stuff from nightmares, so if anyone fancies a cleaner one gimme a call, and I shall try again.

"Syakuhachi" is a misspelling of "shakuhachi". The "H" and "Y" keys are right next to each other on the keyboard.

Not a typo, just a different way to write it. しゃ can be either sha or sya depending on what romanization system you use. It's actually pretty often written as Syakuhachi.

I know it's written as Shakuhachi on another track but I think it's better to stick to how it's written rather than deciding which one is correct.

Thanks for the info. I left the alternate spelling in parentheses on the album note.
