Whoops sorry, my fault. Teioh asked yesterday on IRC if soundcloud entries were fine and I just assumed it was a downloadable one without asking.

Well, if the entry is not accepted it can be disabled for now. Is there a thread about this topic, why only downloadable digital releases are accepted on the website?

I don't know that we've had an official thread on it anywhere, just discussions in album threads here and there.

It originally came up from composers posting music in Flash players on their sites; we only wanted soundtracks people are intended to acquire, not ones that only allow streaming as part of someone's portfolio.

Streaming-only soundtracks like these that are packaged as soundtracks are becoming more common though (on SoundCloud in particular), maybe it's about time we consider giving them a special distribution type or something.

Maybe something like changing the format "Digital" to "Digital Download" (pretty common phrase) and a new type just "Streaming" or so for the uh... telling them apart? If the music is put as a full OST (as it can be I guess) and of course if that was the only way of 'releasing' it.

Anyhow, not all that bad to give it a chance. For example, Jason Graves put several of his soundtracks for streaming only - DmC Vergil's Downfall, Evolve, Murdered: Soul Suspect... Vergil OST was uploaded in March 2013, likely nobody's going to ever release it. Murdered's developers went out of business. Evolve maybe has a chance but who knows...

Also, the "Rental" distribution type was added in 2014. There are currently six such albums in the database. That, in a way, has certain parallels to streaming as in, well, not acquiring the music permanently.

SoundCloud is a really nice platform for these kind of things so I would agree as well. If the soundtrack is presented like one (instead of being just some samples), why not.
