Are you sure the catalog number is the same for both of them? I highly doubt it.

That's how it was with Street Fighter II at least, so I expect it to be the same now.
Vinyl /
CD.

After the excellent Street Fighter II album, I was expecting them to do more sought after, out-of-print stuff, or at the very least, albums that could use a good remastering. Shovel Knight's soundtrack has already been released and, last I checked, can still be obtained from Jake Kaufman's personal bandcamp for a "pay-what-you-want" price. I guess they could remaster it and make it sound better, but it already sounded pretty good.
I still double-dipped, so I guess I'm a hypocrite, but man, I could probably think of a hundred more games that needed the treatment more than this.

I actually agree. When they first announced the Generation Series they made it sound like they were going to focus on old classics that were impossible to find and make them sound so much better. The difference, in all regards, between an arcade game from the '90s and a new indie game released on almost all current platforms couldn't be bigger.
I missed out on supporting the Kickstarter for Shovel Knight so I'm still glad that I'm able to get a physical copy of the soundtrack, but I hope that this was an exception from what they're intending to do (simply because Manami Matsumae had worked on the soundtrack).
