I know this isn't exactly the proper place for this, but has anyone heard anything regarding the music for Second Story R? I mean I believe they are reusing the character sprites from the PS1 version, I was just wondering if they were going to reuse the music or is Sakuraba going to remix? If so, I kind of have some reservations... the OST is kind of dear to me as as it was my first exposure to his music.

The trailer very clearly uses new arrangements. Stab the Sword of Justice sounds like his recent live versions with Reiko Tsuchiya on violin.

Your answer is here: https://twitter.com/StarOcean/status...39770881937408

"The entire original soundtrack has been rearranged by original composer Motoi Sakuraba, with new and remixed tunes in #StarOcean The Second Story R."

Sry, I only saw the piece during the Nintendo direct. I can't recall if it has music or if they were talking over it. I'll have to check out the trailer.

But yeah, I played the heck out of the OG when I was young. It was my fave in the series even though the only other one I played was 3. The leap to 3 graphics wise was mindblowing but I have a sneaking suspicion if I replayed it I'd probably pick it apart now. I will be playing the remake tho.

I saw a options screen for the game in some of the promotional material. It looks like you'll be able to chose between the new score and the original when playing.

Additionally, that screen kind of implies the game is going to use the dub from the PSP game, but there may be multiple options there as well. I'm kind of mixed on that dub honestly; I get the PS1 translation probably wasn't good, but I found I liked the characters less when I played it on the PSP. This might mean we'll get the weird spellings for some of the towns and dungeons.

Also, kind of wish "Heraldry" was not renamed "Symbology" *sigh* but I should expect that. You know, as Celine says "there is no recovery in the Heraldic arts."

symbology isn't an "Earth" term? I think in so6, raymond uses that term whereas laeticia uses another

I've only ever played SO2 and SO3, so I don't know how it's used in the other games, but in Star Ocean: Second Evolution (the PSP port of the second game) Celine's (a native of Expel, not an earthling) use of the word "Heraldry" is replaced with "Symbology" early in the game:

(Skip to 17:27 in the video)

I think the term "Heraldry" has been replaced with "Symbology" in the franchise in most cases.

I get it's very small thing, but I just like the original term more.

I guess the mort important thing is that this remake doesn't suffer the same fate as Wild Arms: alter code:F. I was so disappointed with that back in 2004; they gutted so much I loved about the original. Even Naruke's music was a little bit of a let down unless you count the new tracks.

what I meant is "heraldry" must be a term for magic used on expel/nede
other planets use other terms (symbology for earthlings, semiology for aster iv)

Magic in the Star Ocean series is usually called 紋章術 which was translated "heraldry" in SO2's old translation and "symbology" in other/newer games (variations in some planets use different words in Japanese and English but that's the most common).

紋章 is a 'crest' (or 'coat of arms') but also more generally a symbol/seal. "Heraldry" is an actual word that mainly refers to coats of arms, while "紋章術" is only used in Star Ocean. So can't really fault the translators for going with something a little more general.

I ordered a copy of this from a seller in Germany, and holy heck, did I luck out.

The box was utterly decimated but thankfully the album was fine.

That was a close one.

Edit:

Also, is it missing from the scans, but did this come with a sticker? When I was looking at the photos of the one I got it has a sticker of the front cover. This wasn't included in the previous copy I had so I was surprised to even see it.
