(I really love the Switch remake soundtrack, I think it might be my favorite solo Shimomura work)

Hopefully, CDJapan actually ships my order rather than cancelling it without saying a word.

What's this 'bonus' that Amazon Japan includes? (and why is it cheaper than the 'non-bonus' price?

Considering Amazon.jp lists these all as "cannot ship to your US address" I have a feeling it'll be an Ordertune situation all over again.

These can be ordered from Square Enix's US and EU shops, however

don't know if I'd go as far to call it a solo Shimomura work yet. Wouldn't be surprised if the credited orchestrators fully arranged a lot of the music.

It's a bit ambiguous indeed, Natsumi Kameoka does say she worked on arrangements: https://x.com/kameokanatsumi/status/1884543045712154828
But when the game released, she talked about orchestration: https://x.com/kameokanatsumi/status/1725455867410309461

Same with Tomomichi Takeoka, who spoke about orchestration first: https://x.com/takeokatomo/status/1725325789372289374
But now says arrangements: https://x.com/takeokatomo/status/1884957779481538565

Natsumi Kameoka and Tomomichi Takeoka are both arrangers who previously worked on Live A Live HD-2D, also originally a Yoko Shimomura score.

In that game, Shimomura was credited for music production, but not for arrangement. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same here.

I'm sure the booklet will have arranger credits just like LIVE-A-LIVE did and clear things up. Square Enix isn't shy when it comes to breakdowns like this.

I don't think it's Nintendo that pushed to have this released. Regardless, the price tag is ouch.

So is 1.37 and 3.37 the same exact track here? That’s a little strange. I wonder why they kept it there twice.

it's not strange coz it's 2 different ver, if you only buy switch ver you need to have that track too
sqex won't do 38/22 tracks for switch for this box and 39/22 tracks for switch only

Some people listen straight from the CD and want the track to be there when they choose to listen to the Switch disc.

I think Shimomura did at least a good amount of the arrangements. In her tweet after LIVE A LIVE's remake's announcement, she says "[she was] involved in arranging some of the songs and supervising all of the songs." In her tweet after Super Mario RPG's remake's announcement, she says she was "in charge of the music" and she "arranged all the songs with all [her] heart".

I think this means she was more hands-on with Super Mario RPG's remade soundtrack than LIVE A LIVE's. Kameoka was in charge of arranging some of Xenoblade Chronicles 3's tracks, specifically certain instruments. For example, in "Agnus Castle/Night", she arranged the harp while Ryotaro Yagi arranged the choir, with the ACE duo arranging the rest of the song. I could see Shimomura being the main arranger, with Kameoka and Takeoka helping with some instrument arrangements and helping with the orchestration, making what they both said correct.

On a side note, as I'm writing this, I realized that she took a very similar approach with LIVE A LIVE's remade soundtrack compared to Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition's soundtrack. In the latter game, the tracks she composed that got rearranged for DE were arranged by Tsutomu Narita while she supervised those arrangements. I guess she really wanted to revisit Super Mario RPG's soundtrack, which isn't surprising given she's gone on record saying Super Mario RPG is one of her favorite soundtracks she's worked on.

But also like Mac_Tear said, we'll definitely get answers with the Sound Box's booklet.

I just got the Sound Box but I unfortunately don’t have the equipment to properly scan the booklet, so here’s the latter half of the booklet (the first half is the exact same but in Japanese), as well as the interior credits and the back for good measure.

As I suspected, Shimomura arranged everything, with the exception of “Elegy” (arranged by Kameoka) and “Valen-Valentina” (arranged by Takeoka). There doesn’t seem to be specific orchestration credits sadly.

Side note, does anyone have any guesses on the song Shimomura is referring to in her comment on “The Bell Rings Out at Marrymore”? I got nothing…

I was wrong it turns out! We got proper arrangement credits in the booklet of the new SMRPG OST included in the Sound Box. I knew I forgot to check something! I added it to the Flickr album.

From what I’ve listened of it so far this is a full re-recording from a SNES right? Like the same programming but not the same recordings as the 1996 version?

Haven't listened to it fully either but the website says it's a remastered version of the 1996 album.

Right, I forgot about that part.

I wish Square Enix would release both album artworks digitally. I tried scanning them but I had to photoshop out some crumbs (so I don’t think it’s eligible for VGMdb) and the colors don’t feel right.

Touchups are fine. Just don't edit anything out that's part of the art/package (including printing errors).

I was hoping this artwork was going to be included in this boxset. Is it only on the solo release?

Yeah, looks like it. The box has that one with everyone doing poses.
