On the sixth track, Yoru, who might be singing there?

Is it Kano / Robin or the Italian vocalist Ilaria Graziano?

Lurking around I found that maybe the korean name of this album is: 라그나로크 온라인 2 O.S.T (from http://dodue.free.fr/ykw/record.php?...cat=jida-10504 )

But not sure if that is truly accurate, or if this applies.

Yah, it's kind of weird. Looking at the other site, it appears to have a different release date, 2007-07-05, while VGMdb has it posted as 2007-06-20.

What is "the box" that people are supposed to think outside of anyway? Hmm. Maybe it's similar to the Borg from Star Trek who dwelled as a collective hive-mind within a...box/cube. Those that deviated from this hive-mind would, in effect, be thinking outside of the box. it has both a figurative and a literal meaning.

Well, the particular boy soprano soloist that sings on RO2 is not credited by name. Instead he, along with the boy chorus heard in other tracks, falls under the group "The Little Singers of Tokyo".

So the link from post #4 (this one), shows some screenshots from the bonus DVD -- apparantly shots from the recording sessions.

I was wondering all the time, why is this called DVD Edition when we're not listing this particular DVD? And the DVD seems to be even more obscure than the soundtrack disc itself...

I added the DVD and tracks to the best of my ability. I labeled the tracks what the chapter is called on the root menu, I don't have a TOC reader or anything like that.

I paid 250$ for it on Y!J about 2 weeks before they started selling them for really cheap on the Ragnarok Online site and I think Play Asia. But mine came with a promotional T-Shirt!!!...... (not really worth 230$...)

I went ahead and updated the Album Info with the insert credits and updated the artist linking, too.

Oh, that's quite some price. And I didn't even know it was once available on Play-Asia. Still wondering why it never got the official release through flying DOG / Victor... copyright maybe?

Wonderful, haunting, stunning (insert many more adjectives) Intro Theme.

Everland, Clap and Walk, Pit - who sings this by the way?, Numachi (No Monster), and Hold Your Life are .

BZ I wholeheartedly agree with you. An absolutely stunning score from Yoko Kanno. It's tragic that not all the music she composed for the game saw its way to a physical release.

The game's website had originally released three compositions from Kanno:

"Intro Theme" (4:22)
Just track 01 from the Original Sound Track
http://www.ragnarok2.co.kr/jpn/introTheme.mp3
http://www.ragnarok2.co.kr/teaser/eng/introTheme.mp3
Backup

"Yoru Vln" (4:16)
Vln probably means violin (courtesy of dancey)
http://www.ragnarok2.co.kr/jpn/Yoru_Vln.mp3
http://www.ragnarok2.co.kr/teaser/eng/Yoru_Vln.mp3
Backup

"Koukai FO" (4:23)
Koukai (航海) FO is an isolated version of "Sailing" on the OST (the OST version has the last bit of "Yoru" play out over the beginning of "Sailing"); FO may be fade-out

http://www.ragnarok2.co.kr/teaser/eng/Koukai_FO.mp3
Backup

Anyone know if "Yoru Vln" and "Koukai FO" were released on physical media as well?

Vln is probably shorthand for Violin. In orchestra shorthand it's usually just "Vn". The Yoru version on this OST does not have a violin in it.

Ah, you're right! That makes much more sense. Amended the post, thank you!

It could be that those two compositions were exclusive to the teaser website after all. A pity since they really are something.

Super cool find. What likely happened is the Violin version was simply the original before Ilaria Graziano was recorded. This is a very special treat as "Yoru" is one of Kanno's most beautiful compositions with one of her most memorable melodies.

With the extensive recording Kanno did throughout the late 90s and 00s it makes me wonder how many "alternate" versions like this exist (where it's really the same version, but with different instruments swapped in and out).

For example Wolf's Rain: "could you bite the hand" was originally a full band recording (likely with the usual Imahori/Watanabe/Sano group), until Kanno decided she liked Steve Conte's vocal+acoustic guitar tracks isolated on their own and that became the final version. The "full" version exists on someone's hard drive...

By the way, "Koukai FO" seems identical to the OST version?

Oh woah, how time flies. Hard to imagine that it has been more than 10 years since I asked about Yoru here.

Anyway, the violin version is really something. Gives the track a whole different vibe.

Jormungand: Thank you for pointing out the origin of "Koukai FO"! "Koukai FO", unlike "Sailing", does not have the final part of "Yoru" still playing. Added this to the post above. Although the web and the OST version otherwise seem to have no differences at first sight (or listening, rather), the wave forms look a bit different. It could be that this is a slightly different mix although I doubt it. Maybe someone else could have a listen to both versions and post some more details.

Looks like "Yoru Vln" and "Koukai FO" were both never released anywhere else.

Also echoing your and LiquidAcid's thoughts. Beautiful music.

I still wonder what FO means? Maybe something like Full Orchestra?

FO stands for “fade out” and refers to how the ending is edited. In the soundtrack ripped from the game’s beta (which has over 100 songs, most will never be released…) some songs also have “No FO” versions that have 8-ish extra bars and a proper ending instead of fading out.

Based on the file name, the web version is probably the exact audio file from the game. It’s probably just lower quality/more compressed than the soundtrack version.
