VOCALOID is a singing synthesis program developed by Yamaha, designed to generate singing by a virtual vocalist by inputting lyrics and a melody.

It has a vast collection of vocal libraries capable of singing in English, Japanese, Spanish, Korean and Chinese.

The Character Vocal Series of "characters" developed by Crypton Future Media for the VOCALOID2 software has seen popularity among amateur musicians in Japan as a means of cheaply and easily providing vocals for music.
