Update: Artist Profiles are now Publicly Editable

Registered users can now make edits on the artist pages, and can also upload portrait images.

Some of the more complicated features that pertain to artists -- linking albums into the discographies, adding new artists, group association -- can only be edited by staff and trusted editors. These typically have a higher learning curve, and require a more thorough level of verification, so I'd rather keep them under more controlled circumstances.

Please let me know if anything unusual occurs as a result of this update.

Sounds good, and pretty fair. It's happened to me a few times before, when I've wanted to add some artist info but haven't been able to do so.

Like Wikipedia, I think we'll need to figure out a somewhat standardized way to handle bios, perhaps even sourcing.

Also, we haven't talked much about the biography field. I'd like to open this up as well, but since the discographies are the main focus of the artist pages, I'm thinking that we should limit the bios to something short, probably a paragraph tops summarizing the artist. It'd probably be ideal if these were all original too, instead of lifted from some other site.

I'd prefer original content for these, rather than lifting them from somewhere.

I agree. The content should be in our words, not verbatim from somewhere else. We do not want to be accused of plagiarism.

I hope this features could be edited in the future for regulars members like me too.

Sounds great! At least this way someone who might know something new about a certain artist can finally edit it in. Pretty neat =)

Yeah I wish some of the features (mostly linking discographies and adding artists, as I tend to add mostly doujin albums that aren't added yet) were available to users like me. I can definitely understand why it's restricted though and I respect that.
